Description

We are seeking a passionate PhD-level synthetic chemist to drive the discovery of small molecules for next-generation 3D printing resins. Similar to a drug discovery role, this position involves rapid exploration of chemical space through organic synthesis to develop structure-property relationships. Our feedback loops take only days rather than months or years, involving diverse photochemistry. This role is ideal for synthetic chemists with a passion for physical organic chemistry. Our process uses minimal amounts of each lead candidate, so synthetic creativity is not limited by scalability concerns common in materials applications.

Responsibilities
  1. Design, refine, and troubleshoot small molecule synthetic routes, focusing on divergent or modular approaches to rapidly generate lead candidates.
  2. Characterize lead candidates using UPLC, NMR, UV/Vis, IR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.
  3. Contribute to developing high-throughput analytical capabilities, small molecule databases, and virtual libraries.
  4. Collaborate with analytical chemists and chemical engineers to establish structure-property relationships in formulations containing lead candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. PhD in Organic Chemistry or BS in Chemistry with 5+ years of experience in small molecule discovery roles.
  2. Strong expertise in synthetic and physical organic chemistry, demonstrated through publications and activities.
  3. Experience designing and executing multi-step synthetic routes.
  4. Proficiency with modern computing and data analysis tools relevant to synthetic chemistry.
  5. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  6. Ability to independently drive projects from conception to completion.
  7. Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  8. Robust publication record as lead author and contributor.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Expertise in photochemistry and/or radical chemistry.
  2. Experience with synthesis of heterocyclic and extended aromatic systems relevant to organic (opto)electronics.
  3. Familiarity with cheminformatics and computational chemistry tools (e.g., DFT).
