Job summary

Cherry Bekaert's CFO Advisory Services team seeks a Senior Associate to deliver accounting advisory engagements for state and local governments, higher education, and not-for-profits. You will tackle complex financial reporting, performance improvements, and transformational change leveraging GASB expertise.

Responsibilities include implementing GASB standards, ACFR drafting/reviews, and data-driven analyses, with travel under 25%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in public accounting, external audit, consulting, or public sector accounting.
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB).
• Experience with audit, accounting, or consulting standards (GASB, AICPA, GAS, Yellow Book).
• Ability to navigate Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs).
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Implement new GASB accounting standards.
• Assist clients with GASB 68/75/87/96 applications.
• Develop roll forwards and adjustments for GASB standards.
• Support complex financial statement close processes (accruals, reclassifications, debt amortization).
• Draft or review Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs).
• Convert cash to modified accrual or full accrual accounting where needed.
• Drive process improvement and organizational design.
• Interview clients and engage stakeholders to validate assumptions and insights.
• Manipulate large data sets and solve cross-source data validation issues.
