In accordance with state and federal regulations, assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in other Pharmacy Department duties in line with Company policies and procedures.
Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating the pharmacy cash registers.

Job Responsibilities/Tasks
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assists in pharmacy practice, in accordance with regulations and company policies. Reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Performs duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, filling prescriptions, verifying medicines, checking for interactions, and assisting in scheduling and workflow management.
- Reports prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist and adheres to policies regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement.
- Adheres strictly to Good Faith Dispensing policies during prescription activities.
- Registers all sales on the cash register, handles cash, and assists customers in locating products.
- Handles non-urgent telephone calls, including those to physicians.
- Processes manual claims for third-party prescriptions efficiently and performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Supports inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of asset protection techniques and files claims for overages, shortages, errors, or damaged goods.
- May assist in administering clinical services, including sample collection and labeling, and coordinate with healthcare providers.
- Helps develop and maintain relationships with the local medical community through outreach and detailing.
- Ensures the Pharmacy Department is well-stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
- Follows all company policies and maintains respectful coworker relationships.
- Completes special assignments and other tasks as needed.
Training & Personal Development
- Earns and maintains PTCB certification through designated training and/or state registration. Certification is required for promotion to senior technician.
- Attends training, completes PPLs, and acquires continuing education credits to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.
- Must have PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital settings.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
