Job summary

HANAC, Inc. in College Point, NY, seeks an Assistant Cook to support daily lunch service for seniors under the Head Cook and Program Director. You will prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals while ensuring regulatory compliance and quality.

The role includes inventory, ordering, FIFO, sanitation, and supervising volunteers; you’ll help plan weekly menus and assist with staff scheduling. Experience in large-scale food service and NYC food safety certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate / Food Handlers License required.
• Experience in commercial food service; senior citizens experience preferred.
• Fluent reading/writing/speaking English.
• Basic math and computer skills for inventory and logs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preparation and service of 60-70 meals daily.
• Follow DOHMH and DFTA nutrition guidelines and DOH regulations.
• Assist daily prep, inventory checks, and FIFO rotation.
• Monitor leftovers and manage supplies for weekly menus.
• Support Head Cook with schedules and supervising volunteers.
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards; complete logs.
