Job summary

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Inc. seeks an Assistant Cook to support meal preparation for congregate meals, assist the Cook, and ensure kitchen sanitation and safety in compliance with NYC DOHMH regulations.

Responsibilities include preparing meals under supervision, maintaining kitchen inventory, receiving and inspecting deliveries, proper portioning and temperature control, and occasional culinary activities for seniors; travel to multiple sites within the five boroughs may be

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred but not required.
• Valid Food Handler’s Protection Certificate.
• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
• Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
• Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals under the guidance of the Cook.
• Clean and maintain kitchen area and related equipment.
• Maintain sanitary and safety procedures in kitchen and dining areas.
• Serve food and ensure proper portion control in accordance to guidelines.
• In the absence of the Cook, oversee and maintain the food related areas and equipment per NYC DOHMH regulations.
• Oversee safe handling and temperature control of prepared foods.
• Receive, date and store all food items.
• Inspect all food deliveries for freshness and correct amount ordered.
• Develop meals recipes and introduce to seniors, work on nutritional brochures with cooking recipes, conduct culinary classes.
