Job summary

City of Durham seeks an Equipment Operator for the Cemeteries Division to prepare grave sites and operate equipment across city cemeteries. Responsibilities include grounds maintenance, vehicle inspection, and handling work orders with safety compliance.

Qualified candidates have a High School Diploma or equivalent, at least three years of equipment operation or driving experience, a North Carolina Class B CDL, and completion of safety training such as lockout/tagout and work zone safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of equipment operation/driving or related maintenance experience.
• Valid North Carolina Class B CDL with clean driving record.
• Must complete job-related and safety trainings (e.g., lockout/tagout, confined space, ladder safety, work zone safety).

Responsibilities

• Prepare grave sites for burial services at City cemeteries.
• Operate construction equipment including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and tractors.
• Provide general grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, grave maintenance, and brush removal.
• Weekend work schedule is rotated among Cemetery staff.
