Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site inspector to support transportation construction projects across multiple locations. The role focuses on performing complex and routine inspections, ensuring materials and workmanship conform to plans, specifications, and contract provisions.

The candidate will review drawings, interpret specifications, and communicate findings to the supervisor while operating with limited guidance on assignments and potentially traveling to project sites within the United States.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Intermediate arithmetic and basic math skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to read, understand, interpret construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specs.
• 6 years of related experience; travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine inspections of construction to verify materials and processes meet plans, specs, and provisions.
• Use higher-grade equipment and perform complex calculations for inspections.
• Work under varying supervision based on demonstrated knowledge.
• Review drawings to prepare for inspection.
• Document and communicate inspection results to supervisor.
