Job summary

GFT is seeking Construction Engineering Inspectors (Levels I-IV) to join the Construction Services team in Laredo, TX. The CEI Inspector will oversee field inspection on TxDOT projects, lead inspection staff, and coordinate with project managers to ensure safety, compliance, and timely progress.

The role requires extensive TxDOT inspection experience, strong documentation skills, and proficiency with SiteManager and Microsoft 365.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 - 10+ years of TxDOT or TxDOT-equivalent inspection experience, including complex roadway/bridge projects.
• Extensive experience on TxDOT contracts.
• Proven ability to lead inspection teams, manage inspectors, and represent the CEI firm in meetings with TxDOT.
• Strong knowledge of TxDOT specs, TMUTCD, and documentation standards.
• Proficiency with SiteManager and Microsoft 365 tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, earthwork, concrete, asphalt, retaining walls, and traffic control operations.
• Ensure all work complies with TxDOT specifications, contract plans, and special provisions.
• Communicate progress, risks and decisions with CEI and TxDOT PMs.
• Lead and manage Inspector I–III staff (Inspector IV only).
• Run and facilitate project meetings (pre-activity, coordination, construction).
• Review contractor operations and verify materials placement, testing, and QC activities.
• Prepare and audit Daily Work Reports, pay quantities, diaries, and photo documentation using SiteManager.
• Monitor and document work zone traffic control and TMUTCD compliance.
• Support RFIs, submittals reviews, estimates, change orders, audits, and closeout.
