Job summary

GFT is seeking Construction Engineering Inspectors (Levels II–IV) in Brownsville, TX to join our Construction Services team. You will perform advanced field inspections on TxDOT roadway and bridge projects, lead inspection staff, and coordinate with CEI and TxDOT management to drive project success.

Required are a high school diploma or GED, 4–10+ years of TxDOT inspection, OSHA certification, SiteManager proficiency, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• 4 - 10+ years of TxDOT or TxDOT-equivalent construction inspection experience, including complex roadway and/or bridge projects.
• Extensive experience on TxDOT contracts.
• Proven ability to lead inspection teams, manage inspectors, and represent the CEI firm in meetings with TxDOT.
• Strong knowledge of TxDOT specifications, TMUTCD, and documentation standards.
• Proficiency with SiteManager and cloud-based collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, earthwork, concrete, asphalt, retaining walls, and traffic control operations.
• Ensure all work complies with TxDOT Standard Specifications, contract plans, and special provisions.
• Communicate progress, risks, and decisions with CEI and TxDOT Project Managers.
• Lead, direct, and manage Inspector II–III staff (Inspector IV level).
• Run and facilitate project meetings (pre-activity, coordination, construction).
• Review contractor operations and verify materials placement, testing, and QC activities.
• Prepare and audit Daily Work Reports, pay quantities, diaries, and photo documentation using SiteManager.
• Monitor and document work zone traffic control and TMUTCD compliance.
• Support with RFIs, Submittals, estimates, change orders, audits, and closeout.
