Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Senior Sanitation Equipment Operator to drive an automated collection vehicle and, when needed, rear-end loading equipment to collect residential waste and related debris. The role requires careful route execution and safety-conscious operation.

Candidates must hold a CDL, be able to lift 100 lbs, and have five years of related work experience or a HS diploma with three years.

Qualifications

• CDL is required and a City driving permit must be obtained
• Five years related work experience OR High School Graduate or equivalent and three years related work experience
• Ability to lift & carry 100 lbs.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, safety precautions and work hazards
• Read and follow street maps & driving routes
• Willing to work nights, weekends or holidays; overtime may be required
• Background checks and pre-employment drug screening are part of the process

Responsibilities

• Operate automated collection vehicle for residential waste and debris
• Daily inspection of assigned equipment for readiness and safety
• Complete collection routes safely and on time
• Perform related manual labor tasks including lifting and emptying containers
• May lead a crew of two or more workers as needed
• May operate additional equipment such as rear-end loading vehicles when necessary
