Job summary

The City of Asheville is seeking a Sanitation Driver I in the Public Works Department to operate rear-loading sanitation trucks and support daily waste collection operations. You will work on a rotation that includes early mornings, with potential for additional shifts during weather events or special events.

Candidate must have a High school diploma or GED and a North Carolina Class B CDL (or permit with 90-day path to obtain) and demonstrate safe operation of heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required; vocational training a plus.
• North Carolina Class B CDL license or permit is required or must be obtainable within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Drive rear-loading sanitation trucks on assigned routes securing loads and ensuring safe operation.
• Operate vehicles on public roads, following traffic laws and safety guidelines.
• Collect refuse, lift and empty carts, and ensure disposal per city guidelines; assist with bulky items as needed.
• Report incidents, maintain cleanliness and preventive maintenance of equipment, and coordinate with supervisor.
