Job summary

AIG Europe S.A. (U.K. Service Branch) & American International Group UK Ltd is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst in New York. You will lead catastrophe risk research, validate vendor models, and collaborate with global teams to advance analytics and risk assessment.

You will influence model evaluation, validate peril region views, and contribute to climate risk insights that shape underwriting and risk management across the organization.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Climate Science, Natural Hazards, Applied Statistics, or a related subject.
• 3+ years of experience in catastrophe research or model development, RMS experience preferred.
• Excellent understanding of catastrophe modelling science and hands-on validation experience.
• Knowledge of catastrophe models, strengths, weaknesses, and regional expertise.
• Understanding of climate change and its insurance impact; analytics and leadership interest.
• Strong communication of technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in programming with R, Python, and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Lead innovative research on catastrophe risk for material peril regions.
• Develop standard practices and views of risk strategy.
• Support end-to-end catastrophe model evaluation and vendor model validation.
• Propose adjustments to vendor out-of-the-box views and implement changes.
• Assess climate change impacts on global perils and engage stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Underwriting, and ERM to share insights.
• Partner with Data Office on data initiatives and vendor assessments.
