Job summary

AIG Europe S.A. (U.K. Service Branch) & American International Group UK Ltd is seeking a Catastrophe Research Manager to lead model validation and research for global perils.

You will oversee a team in Bengaluru, coordinate with Moody’s, Verisk, KatRisk, and internal stakeholders to drive risk insights across regions. Qualifications

• 6+ years in catastrophe research or model development; RMS knowledge preferred.
• PhD or MSc in Climate Science, Natural Hazards, Applied Statistics, or related field.
• Experience at underwriting company or broker is a bonus.
• Strong understanding of catastrophe modelling; experience with reviews and validation for internal stakeholders and regulators.
• In-depth knowledge of catastrophe models and their strengths/weaknesses.
• Solid understanding of climate change impact on insurance; able to present research.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal skills.
• Strong programming skills including R, Python, and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Lead Model Validation & Research for specific perils and regions, mentoring a team based in Bengaluru, India.
• Work with Cat Modelling Leadership to evaluate models, develop best practices, and implement AIG’s view of risk worldwide.
• Support end-to-end catastrophe model evaluation across the company: define and implement AIG View of Risk; validate vendor models; propose adjustments.
• Develop relationships with Reinsurance Brokers and Model Vendors; benchmark AIG’s View of Risk.
• Support assessment of climate change and impacts to perils worldwide; provide thought leadership.
• Engage with regulators on climate change topics and model risk management policies; communicate clearly.
• Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Product Office, Actuarial, Underwriting, and ERM for best practices.
• Partner with Data Office on data initiatives, vendor capabilities, and contract reviews.
• Promote collaboration and accountability within a diverse, inclusive environment.
