Job summary

Thompson Machinery seeks an experienced Rental Field Service Mentor to diagnose, service, repair, and maintain Caterpillar rental equipment in the field across Tennessee and nearby areas. You will guide and train newer technicians while balancing your own field service workload, ensuring safe, accurate repairs and strong customer service.

The role requires advanced diagnostics, strong knowledge of diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems, and the ability to travel to customer sites

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical education or diesel technology training preferred.
• Seven or more years of hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, and servicing heavy construction and earthmoving equipment.
• Caterpillar equipment experience strongly preferred.
• Strong experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical/electronic systems, powertrain, and equipment diagnostics.
• Previous experience mentoring or coaching developing technicians is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair Caterpillar rental equipment at customer and company locations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to newer and developing field service technicians.
• Evaluate and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Research Caterpillar service information and determine repair procedures.
• Support trainees with diagnostics and share best practices.
