Job summary

Hamilton Select is seeking a Senior Claims Director, Casualty Claims, to lead high exposure casualty and specialty claims from a remote or Richmond-based location. You will mentor adjusters and partner with underwriting while handling complex coverage issues and multi-jurisdictional claims.

The role requires 8+ years in casualty or specialty claims, with strong negotiation, analytical, and communication abilities. Travel for trials and mediations is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of casualty and/or specialty claims handling or related litigation.
• Experience in Excess and Surplus market preferred.
• Experience with complex coverage issues required.
• Multi-jurisdictional claims and litigation experience required.
• Adjuster license and or certifications desired, but not required.
• Strong negotiating, analytical, written, and organizational skills.
• Mediation and arbitration experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office, SharePoint, in-house systems).

Responsibilities

• Review claims and related systems and processes.
• Understand and analyze policy language and contracts.
• Provide coverage, liability, and damages analysis for claims and ensure timely reserving and appropriate legal payments.
• Draft disclaimers and reservation of rights letters.
• Negotiate settlements, mitigate losses, and control expenses.
• Adhere to Claims Best Practices, Key Controls, and file handling requirements.
• Maintain a high level of communication with leadership and underwriting partners.
• Ensure reports are timely prepared and disseminated.
• Mentor new staff and identify procedural improvements.
• Support other functional groups within the organization.
• Ensure compliance with internal guidelines and processes.
• Some travel for trials and mediations, etc.
