Job summary

University of Vermont is seeking a skilled Carpenter to perform repairs, maintenance, and construction carpentry tasks. You will read blueprints and building plans, select materials, and fabricate parts as needed.

The role may involve operating a university vehicle and possibly an aerial lift, with supervision as required. We expect 4–5 years of related experience, a valid Vermont Driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and 4–5 years of related field (building/remodeling) experience.
• Valid Vermont Driver's License and Driver's check required.
• Lifting of up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Experience using computers and mobile technology required.
• Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing specific job tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of skilled repairs, maintenance and construction carpentry tasks.
• Read blueprints, sketches, and building plans for information.
• Select appropriate materials and equipment to complete the job and rebuild or fabricate parts.
• Operate a University vehicle and may operate an aerial lift.
• Provide technical assistance and direction to less experienced carpenters.
• Promote a safe workplace in the Shop and field.
