Job description

Job Description:

Already a caregiver? Come do it somewhere that has your back.

Job Overview

You already know this work. You know how to help someone shower without making them feel embarrassed. You know how to calm a client with dementia who’s convinced it’s 1974. You know which clients need you to talk and which ones just need you to be there.

What you may not have had is an agency that makes all of that easier. One that answers the phone when you call, trains you like a professional, and tells you plainly where you stand.

That’s what we’re building at Visiting Angels Des Moines.

Who we are

We provide non-medical in-home care for seniors and adults with disabilities across Des Moines, West Des Moines, Urbandale, Grimes, Johnston, Clive, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill and Altoona. Our whole philosophy fits in four words: reliable, compassionate care. Families count on us to keep their loved ones safe and comfortable at home, and we count on caregivers like you to make that happen.

The work you already do well
  • Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting, with dignity
  • Safe transfers, mobility help and fall prevention
  • Meals, medication reminders and light housekeeping
  • Errands and rides to appointments
  • Alzheimer’s and dementia care
  • Steady, kind company for clients who may not see anyone else all day
What’s different here

Support you can feel. Here’s how one of our caregivers put it: “The support from the office team is exceptional, and communication is always clear and effective.”

Training that respects your experience. You'll get paid, hands‑on training, taught in person at our Urbandale office on real equipment, with certificates to show for it. You already know a lot. We’ll help you go further with transfers, dementia care and mechanical lifts.

No guessing. Your raises are in writing before you’re even hired. You earn real PTO, and short visits and holidays pay premium rates. You’ll see every detail on paper at your interview. No mystery, no “it depends.”

What you need

Experience caring for others, whether at another agency, in a facility, or as an independent caregiver. If you’ve done in-home care before, you already know what this job asks of you, and you already know why it’s worth it.

The honest part

Switching agencies is a big decision, and we’ll not pretend every day here is easy. You’ll still work on your own in clients’ homes, and some days will still break your heart a little. The difference is you won’t be carrying it alone.

Bonus points

Open to an occasional weekend or overnight shift? Let us know when you apply. These come up less often, but they matter a lot to the families who need them.

One more thing

One more thing: after you apply, we’ll send a short questionnaire. It ends with a space to tell us more about yourself. A story, an interesting fact, anything you like. We read every one.
