Job summary

Spanish Trails Wellness & Rehabilitation is seeking a full-time cook to prepare meals per menus and recipes while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The role supports nutrition care and quality food service in a long-term care setting.

The position requires experience in large-scale cooking, adherence to food handling guidelines, and the ability to work under supervision to adjust menus and meet meal schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine food quantities.
• Prepares food following safe handling guidelines per policy and state/federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; serves meals on time.
• Maintains standards for food prep and quality; uses nutrition substitutes when required.
• Operates kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, slicers, steamers, ovens and ranges.
• Cooks items by baking, roasting, broiling and steaming as needed.
• Prepares consistency-modified and diet foods; assists with special function meals.
• Completes pre-preparation including washing, peeling and cutting vegetables and fruits.
• Prepares and serves food attractively; tastes for palatability and safety.
• Monitors and records food temperatures prior to service.
• Makes menu changes under supervision and uses substitutes when required.
• Practices proper hand washing; handles thawing, packaging and labeling correctly.
• Follows cleaning schedules; cleans equipment and work area after use; manages waste as assigned.
• Takes responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
