Job summary

Carmel Hills Wellness & Rehabilitation is seeking a dedicated cook responsible for preparing meals according to menus and standardized recipes, while ensuring adherence to safety and nutrition standards. You will monitor food handling, assist with ordering and preparation, and help maintain quality and timely service in a long-term care setting.

The role requires experience in large-scale cooking and in long-term care environments, with a focus on nutrition compliance and safe kitchen practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two years as cook in large-scale operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine quantities of food to prepare.
• Prepares foods following safe handling guidelines per policy and state/federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; prepares food timely to preserve quality and serve meals on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality; uses nutritionally equivalent substitutes when required; follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen equipment and utensils; bakes, roasts, broils, and steams foods as required.
• Prepares consistency-modified and diet foods; assists with special function meals.
• Completes pre-preparation like washing, peeling and cutting vegetables; weighs/measures meat for menu compliance.
