Job summary

Coronado Care Center is seeking a cook to prepare and serve meals in a long-term care setting, following approved menus and standardized recipes. You will monitor food handling, ensure safety, and support nutrition care by adhering to federal, state and local regulations.

The role requires experience in large-scale cooking and comfort with menu reviews, production guides, and timely meal service. Experience in long-term care is preferred, and a high school diploma or equivalent is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian the need for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepares food according to safe handling guidelines and state and federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated; serves meals on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality; uses substitutes when required and follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen equipment and prepares items by baking, roasting, broiling and steaming.
• Prepares and assists with special function meals and modified diet items.
• Cleans and handles pre-preparation tasks and ensures correct temperature records.
• Follows hand washing, packaging, labeling and glove procedures; maintains clean work areas.
• Supports dietary staff and meets meal schedules; reports to the Cook or Dietary Manager.
