Job summary

UPMC seeks Patient Care Technicians to join a designated nursing unit and a centralized PCT team. You will mentor, deliver routine patient care, and support safety and quality initiatives while completing mandatory training.

Successful completion of the PCT class is required; CNA is preferred. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a background in healthcare, with shifts including day, evening, night, weekend, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
• Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
• Patient Care Technician: High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of healthcare experience, OR 1 year of experience plus completion of at least one clinical rotation as part of a nursing or PT/OT/PA program or related health care training, OR 1 year of experience and completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
• Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine patient care under the direction of nurses and physicians.
• Assist with ADLs: bathing, feeding, transport, toileting, ambulation, turning, repositioning.
• Record vital signs and assist with basic procedures as trained.
• Support safety, quality and patient experience initiatives with nursing leadership.
• Attend trainings and meetings; maintain professionalism and reliability.
