Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Computer Aided Manufacturing Engineer to support front‑end data processing and panelization for internally fabricated hardware. This role spans from high‑reliability space products to rapid prototypes, with CAM work, design checks, and production support on site in the Baltimore‑Washington area.

You will collaborate with customers during pre‑production tooling, assist with PCB fabrication planning, and help with testing,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in printed circuit board manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of experience with PCB CAM software Genesis 2000 and/or InCAM.
  • Familiar with IPC-6012, 6013, 2221, and 2223 requirements.
  • Proficient in Perl, CShell, or Python.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to obtain a Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Ability to work on site.

Responsibilities

  • CAM engineering for incoming PCBs including rigid, rigid‑flex, and flexible circuits; develop fabrication flows; generate work orders and support closeout activities.
  • Backend support of CAM software; edit design rules checks and automation scripts; contribute ideas to advance product progress; provide basic equipment support.
  • Coach customers on PCB design and fabrication guidelines.
  • Interface with customers during pre‑production tooling and provide production status updates.
  • Attend design reviews for fabrication feasibility and readiness.
  • Operate PCB manufacturing equipment and process boards; may involve chemicals and lifting heavy objects.
