Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to design, plan, and lead the fabrication of complex electronic assemblies for space and national security programs. This role involves hands-on work in a high-mix, low-volume SMT environment, interfacing with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure robust hardware and manufacturing readiness.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with partners.
  • Proven process development and improvement skills with knowledge of solder joint characteristics and SMT processing tools and materials.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work in a Class 8 Cleanroom and travel up to 5% within the US.
  • Flexibility in shift hours during periods of heavy workload.
  • Eligibility to obtain a US Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop process plans and capabilities to build hardware.
  • Lead hardware development through the SMT fabrication area; hands-on while guiding technicians.
  • Serve as the manufacturing expert for complex electronic assemblies in national programs.
  • Analyze requirements to ensure hardware meets sponsor expectations; evaluate new materials and processes.
  • Develop and revise standard operating procedures and process plans.
  • Develop, implement and improve fabrication processes for high-reliability assemblies.

Education

BS Degree or equivalent in a technical field
