Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. You will contribute to manufacturing spacecraft, undersea hardware, and test systems in a dynamic fabrication group that supports R&D to flight hardware, meeting AS9100 standards.

This role offers exposure to 3-axis and multi-axis CNC milling, complex fabrication, and a wide range of materials.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience with setup, programming and operation of vertical or multi-axis CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming software, Mastercam preferred.
  • Proficiency with general computer functions (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Understanding of G-Code/Heidenhain.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints with GD&T.
  • Willingness to work second shift; ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Setting-up, programming, maintenance, and operation of CNC and conventional milling machines for end-to-end manufacturing with minimal direction.
  • Analyze and interpreting solid models and blueprints to meet customer specifications, applying GD&T.
  • Performing in-process inspection using precision measuring instruments to verify hardware specs and tolerances.
  • Collaborating with engineers and designers to discuss complex designs and provide fabrication insight.
  • Maintaining proficiency with quality processes and recording durations in ERP system.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
