Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a drafting professional to develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for steel structures, tooling, and piping. You’ll work with design engineers to iterate concepts, ensure manufacturability, and maintain large assemblies and BOMs.

The role emphasizes DFMA and close collaboration with fabricators and vendors. You will partner with engineers throughout the lifecycle, ensuring high-quality drawings and model integrity, while supporting field deployment and manufacturing

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing/drafting steel and aluminum structures in a 3D CAD environment.
• Strong mechanical design and integration skills in 3D CAD.
• Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter for CAD data management.
• Experience managing large CAD assemblies through product life cycle.
• Experience drafting structural equipment or tooling for aerospace/heavy industry.
• Proficiency with ASME Y14.3/14.5/14.100/14.41.
• Familiarity with weld symbols per AWS D1.1/D1.2.
• Familiarity with drafting standards and ability to apply them consistently.
• Manufacturing knowledge: milling, turning, welding.
• US citizenship/residency for export-controlled information.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawing packages for steel structures, tooling, and piping per industry standards.
• Iterate on models in response to feedback and contribute options during concepting and trades.
• Develop design layouts, skeletons, installation drawings and packing models.
• Modify existing drawings to support design iteration.
• Generate multiple packaging concepts and present options to engineers and stakeholders.
• Coordinate model assemblies from other groups; maintain final CAD models.
• Translate development models to master CAD models.
• Manage large CAD assemblies and BOM naming/organization.
• Act as drafting standards checker and deploy reasonable standards.
• Apply DFA and DFM principles to balance cost, schedule, and performance.
• Partner with engineers, fabricators, and vendors to resolve issues during fabrication.
• Self-direct prioritization and scheduling of work activities.
• Support configuration management and PDM workflows.
