Job summary

BWXT in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a CAD Designer to transform concepts into detailed drawings using SolidWorks and related methods. You will work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and other teams to ensure designs meet requirements.

The role requires a high school diploma, six years of related experience, knowledge of GD&T/BOM, and strong written and verbal communication. On-site position with security clearance considerations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Associate’s degree preferred and may substitute for some experience.
• Minimum of six (6) years of related experience.
• Knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of GD&T and BOM creation.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE or DOD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Create design models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks CAD software and other design methods.
• Work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and other teams to ensure design work meets requirements.
• Generate drawings and schematics based on design specifications.
• Prepare related technical documents.
• Interpret concepts and convert designs into technical drawings.
• Specialize in modeling and detailing machine design parts and assemblies.
• Evaluate and suggest improvements to product designs.
• Ensure technical quality and accuracy of project work.
