Job summary

BWXT Advanced Technologies in Lynchburg, Virginia seeks a Mechanical System Design Engineer to focus on system design across mechanical and fluid domains, reporting to the Mechanical System Design Supervisor. You will develop system descriptions, P&IDs and specifications to meet project requirements.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Physics or Engineering, with 4+ years' experience, strong communication, and ability to obtain security clearance. Proficiency with MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics or an Engineering discipline is required.
• Minimum of four years of relevant work experience.
• Technical background in mechanical engineering design, fluid systems, thermodynamics, and process instrumentation.
• Proficiency with MS Office and excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Identify system requirements and prepare system design documentation (SDDs, control narratives).
• Select components (valves, heat exchangers) and prepare specifications for detailed design.
• Design piping systems with line sizing and pressure drop calculations.
• Produce PFDs, P&IDs, data sheets, and system test requests.
• Apply ASME and other codes to fluid systems.
• Coordinate with electrical, I&C, mechanical, and test engineers.
• Present system design results to stakeholders.
