Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced Design/Drafter to create and revise CAD models and drawings for complex weapon design projects. You will develop modeling structures for large programs, participate in design reviews, and collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to define requirements and design solutions.

Level 3 or 4 responsibilities include mentoring teammates, leading design tasks, and ensuring conformance to standards.

Qualifications

• Intermediate to advanced understanding of three-dimensional parametric CAD systems.
• Modeling and drawing drafting principles; application of standards, symbols, notes, and GD&T on drawings and models.
• Component and tool design, fixturing, schematics, and tooling equipment.
• Experience with machine shop equipment such as a mill, lathe, drill press, welder, and inspection equipment.
• Knowledge of engineering materials for component design and manufacture.
• High-level 3D parametric CAD systems and product data management.
• Novel design solutions for static or dynamic applications.
• Application of design limits in non-routine environments.
• Engineering concepts in product data management and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise CAD models, drawings, markups, and associated data records.
• Apply engineering standards and design practices to assigned work.
• Lead novel design solutions for unique design challenges and facilitate design reviews.
• Define requirements with engineers and stakeholders and develop design solutions.
• Support estimating, scheduling, and fabrication-readiness activities.
• Mentor lower-level designers and ensure drawing/model compatibility.
