Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation seeks a Construction and Maintenance Technician III to lead field crews in outdoor gas utility work in OH. You’ll perform preventive maintenance, assist in budgeting, and mentor junior technicians while ensuring safety and compliance.

The role requires 5+ years in gas utilities, a CDL B, HazMat endorsement (within 12 months), and strong knowledge of distribution systems. Weekend/on-call shifts are required; driver responsibilities and PPE are part of daily duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 5 years of gas utility experience in a mechanical or industrial role.
• CDL, Class B required.
• HazMat endorsement within 12 months if not already held.
• Advanced knowledge of natural gas and propane distribution systems.
• Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office & work systems).
• Proficiency with tools and materials used in underground maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

• Lead pipeline maintenance activities (leak repairs, cathodic protection installation, right-of-way clearing, valve maintenance).
• Coordinate and lead operations in the absence of the Gas Operations Supervisor.
• Assist with maintaining inventory levels.
• Support project estimate development, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Complete compliance requirements using work order management systems.
• Mentor and train field crew; foster a positive team environment.
• Inspect and maintain tools/equipment for calibration and operation.
• Serve as Operator Qualification master evaluator.
• Assist in training C&M Technician I and II employees.
