What You'll Be Doing
The purpose of the Senior Buyer position is to:
- Initiate and purchase required materials from suppliers at the most favorable price, consistent with estimate, quality, and quantity.
- Obtain deliveries meeting forecasted manufacturing schedules.
- Follow company policies and procedures to ensure a safe, respectful workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
- Develop additional or alternative sources of supply for materials and services; secure sources for new or improved materials; maintain a list of acceptable vendors.
- Review and purchase materials based on the MRP report; set up new vendors when required.
- Maintain purchasing records, including quotes and requests for quotes.
- Schedule product deliveries according to manufacturing schedules and expedite as necessary.
- Update part maintenance as needed.
- Perform research to find parts or services to meet customer needs; meet with suppliers to obtain pricing, availability, or service information.
- Review requisitions and initiate all authorized purchases.
- Collaborate with Production and Quality departments to resolve material issues.
- Ensure smooth material flow across departments.
- Evaluate material shortages and make adjustments accordingly.
- Coordinate activities related to Engineering Change Notices.
- Negotiate contracts and assess financial risks as required.
- Back up the Purchasing Manager when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
