A leading credit union seeks a Sr. Business Underwriter to oversee the commercial lending portfolio. Responsible for policy development, risk management, and relationship management, the successful candidate will have strong communication skills and a background in commercial underwriting. This role directly contributes to the soundness of the Business Banking Department with a competitive salary range based on experience.
The primary role of a Sr. Business Underwriter within the business lending group is to take ownership of the portfolio and to utilize excellent credit skills to work independently on the portfolio of member relationships. The incumbent will help develop policies and procedures, ensure prudent underwriting practices are consistently applied and appropriately assess, monitor and manage the risk in the department's portfolio. The position will also prepare / evaluate new credit opportunities, diligently manage the portfolio (i.e. annual reviews, modifications, covenant compliance, credit metrics), and meet member expectations and deadlines. The Underwriter will be a partner to the Relationship Managers and senior management in the market, balancing sales and credit quality results while adhering to Federal & State regulations, Credit Union policies and procedures. In the Senior Business Underwriter's role of overseeing the entire business loan portfolio for compliance to the Credit Union's Policies and Procedures, they will indirectly report to both the CLO and CEO. This position is integral to the soundness of the Business Banking Department.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES AND TASKS :
1. Assists, directs and counsels Relationship Managers in qualifying loans, determining borrower's needs, determining appropriate commercial loan product, and obtaining requisite financial data.
2. Structures transactions by being open minded and creative while balancing the risk / reward rather than concluding immediately that the deal cannot be done. Additionally, you will provide direction and ideas / suggestions on how to market our structure to the member.
3. Utilizes excellent credit underwriter skills to author well thought out and concise financial and repayment analysis with a focus on cash flow, liquidity, and leverage analysis of relationships using appropriate structure and identifying key risks.
4. Works proactively, in a constructive, diplomatic manner, with both internal and external contacts to keep transactions moving. Strives to minimize turnaround-time while thoroughly documenting credit requests.
5. Provides leadership in the market by being a positive contributor to the team and embracing change.
6. Manages and monitors the credit risk profile in the commercial portfolio to include the ACH process.
7. Demonstrates excellent communication skills both internally and externally between Members, Relationship Managers, Loan Administration, Loan Documentation & Funding Control and other departments involved in the loan process.
8. States opinion in a clear, concise manner and able to defend positions with Senior Management.
9. Works with Enterprise Risk Management to review or address loan file quality, audit exceptions and assist or head up meeting with State of Arizona and NCUA Federal examiners.
10. Indirectly supervises Business Loan Operations on File Quality and Monitoring functions of loans. Also would directly manage junior underwriters and credit analysts when these positions are filled.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary range : $62,707.71 to $82,303.87 annually. Job Grade EX 13. Salary dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications.
