Job description

Position Overview: As Senior Business Intelligence Architect / SME (Subject Matter Expert), you will play a vital role in building an enterprise class Power BI solution that will connect to live data from Azure Synapse and migrate into Microsoft Fabric. You will work closely with the data officer on best practices and build reusable patterns for data access, report templates and Power BI application design. You will also be transforming raw data into actionable insights, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization, and will run and direct the Center of Excellence around Power BI best practices. You will manage Power BI Web Enterprise Environment, building the roadmap for harnessing Microsoft Fabric and AI. Your expertise in Power BI, data visualization, and data analysis will be essential in creating compelling dashboards and reports that will empower business users to understand complex data and drive strategic initiatives. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to identify business requirements and design efficient data models to deliver impactful solutions. The focus of this role is to provide business intelligence services, spearhead BI software development, and surface Power BI reports, which includes modernization of existing client reports into interactive dashboards and training of report builders leading by example and consistently illustrating and fostering best practices. The successful candidate will show expertise in translating business requirements into functional, clear, concise, and actionable output. The Power BI Engineer takes raw data and creates coherent and useful reports to collect meaningful business insights.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain enterprise grade interactive Power BI applications, dashboards, and reports to provide actionable insights to business users.
• Design and develop efficient data models in Power BI to support complex data relationships and calculations using DAX to create compelling custom visuals.
• Evolve the data maturity to enable advanced reporting capabilities.
• Oversight and strategic direction / planning for migration to Fabric Capacity.
• Lead roll-out of Power BI Embedded Solution / secure embedding for certain applications where navigation and end-user experience would benefit.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and understand their data visualization needs.
• Provide administrative control over Power BI web settings, managing user & group access, and ensure data security. Manage and optimize Power Apps and audiences.
• Create and maintain data connections to various data sources, ensuring data integrity and reliability. Engage closely with Data Team to evolve and transition from complex Excel workbooks to Synapse and Power BI reporting environments.
• Model data, optimizing and fine-tuning for Power BI reports and queries to be performant and responsive.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate users on how to utilize Power BI effectively.
• Leverage Azure DevOps to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines, streamlining the deployment of Power BI and Azure Synapse Analytics solutions. Configure DevOps pipelines for automated data integration, testing, and deployment processes, ensuring reliable and efficient delivery of BI assets across development, testing, and production. environments. Implement and oversee Automated Data Validation solutions.
• Monitor and maintain the health of Power BI solutions, resolving issues and troubleshooting as needed.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in Power BI and business intelligence.
• Align Power BI Activity Log Monitoring with best practices and client needs.
• Collaborate with other developers to ensure that the data warehouse is designed and developed according to best practices.
• Employ best-practices and SME-level leadership and direction in the design and deployment of Workspace Architecture, strategically isolating semantic models from reports in accordance with end-user roles, technical skills, and permissions.
• Utilize PySpark within Azure Synapse Analytics to perform large-scale data transformations and optimize ETL workflows, enabling efficient processing of high-volume data for advanced Power BI reporting and analytics. Deploy PySpark scripts in Azure Synapse pipelines, improving data processing speeds and enhancing scalability for enterprise-level BI solutions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s / master's degree in computer science or information Systems Technology
• Strong expertise in Microsoft Power BI Premium, including the ability to build complex data models, develop DAX formulas, and create interactive visualizations.
• Deep familiarity with Synapse and Apache Parquet files.
• Able to lead teams and work with Azure Dev Ops
• Solid understanding and hands-on experience with Power BI embedded solutioning.
• Proficiency in report writing, data analysis, and data visualization techniques.
• Proven experience in handling administrative tasks in Power BI, such as managing user access and security settings.
• Solid understanding of data connections and the ability to establish and maintain connections to various data sources including VNET connections.
• Familiarity with data management principles and practices, including data cleaning, transformation, and integration.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into effective Power BI solutions.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail to identify data inconsistencies and errors.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI at an enterprise level.
• Proven record of accomplishment in data analysis, visualization, and business intelligence projects.
• Strong understanding of and familiarity with Apache Parquet column-oriented data, and proven experience integrating from source to enterprise data models and reports.
• SME-level familiarity with DAX language and its application in data manipulation and modeling.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing interactive and user-friendly dashboards and reports.
