Qualifications

• 7+ years in an Analyst role in data management.
• 5+ years of the Health and Benefits sector.

• Experience in Data Integration/Movement, Data Quality, Master Data Management, Data Governance, or Data Modeling.
• Strong verbal and written communication, translating complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Gather and document current and future business processes, technical specifications, and use cases.
• Identify data management process improvements and roadblocks.
• Perform gap analyses against target frameworks and assist with roadmaps.
• Develop data dictionaries, mappings, and glossaries with SMEs.
• Define business rules for data acquisition, integration, and quality monitoring.
• Gather requirements for reports, analyses, and data access needs.
• Assess source data structure, quality, and conformance.
• Investigate data integrity issues and coordinate resolution.
• Identify data trends and recommend improvements.
• Communicate status, risks, issues, and decisions to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and assist planning.
• Lead discovery sessions with business SMEs and technical leads.

Job description

The Business Analyst (BA) plays an important role in the implementation of Enterprise Data Management (EDM) Solutions for EXL Clients. Senior Business Analysts will work on a variety of tasks ranging from requirements gathering/analysis, data profiling, preparing functional and technical documentation, and deployment tasks. This is a business-facing role that works independently and collaboratively with internal and client teams to ensure project success.

The candidate must have insurance industry domain knowledge and understand the key insurance concepts (Policies, Claims, Premiums, reinsurance, London market etc).

The BA drives and participates in discovery and design sessions and is involved in all aspects of data management implementations including translation of architecture and design documentation into configured solution components, including data models, mappings, rules, reports, and more. The BA should have practical experience extracting and analyzing large amounts of data using SQL queries from a data warehouse environment.

(60%) Analysis/Documentation

• Requirements Gathering: Collects and documents current and future business processes, technical specifications, and use cases.
• Process Improvement Identification: Pinpoints where data management processes can be made more efficient or effective.
• Gap Analysis: Compares current policies, processes, and capabilities to frameworks or target states to find gaps.
• Roadmap Support: Assists with roadmap development, including prioritization, dependency analysis, and resourcing.
• Data Dictionary Development: Creates data dictionaries, mappings, and glossaries by collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
• Business Rules Development: Establishes business rules for data acquisition, integration, and quality monitoring.
• Report & Data Requirements Gathering: Collects and details requirements for reports, analyses, and data access needs.
• Source Data Assessment: Evaluates and documents the structure, quality, and conformity of source data sets.
• Data Integrity Analysis: Initiates investigations into data inconsistencies and works to resolve them for improved data integrity.
• Data Trend Analysis: Identifies and interprets data trends and patterns and recommends business or process improvements based on findings.

(30%) Communication/Organization

• Communicates consistently with other team members, leadership and clients outlining status, risks, issues and key decisions
• Assist tech lead and developers with addressing business and data related questions and concerns
• Coordinates with Project Managers and participates in project planning
• Perform feasibility analysis, scopes projects, and works with the project manager to prioritizes deliverables
• Acts as the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams
• Creates reports as required to support stakeholders and project team

Experience & Education

• 7+ years of experience in Analyst role
• 5+ years of the Health and Benefits sector
• 5+ years of consulting experience strongly preferred
• 3+ years of experience leading offshore teams
• 2+ years Insurance industry experience
• Practical experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
• Data Integration/Movement
• Data Quality
• Master Data Management
• Data Governance
• Business and Data Analysis
• Data Modeling
• Extensive experience in identifying and documenting business requirements in a data management environment, including use of joint application design facilitation or other requirements gathering techniques
• Experience working with business and IT functions in a variety of corporate cultures, as both an employee and consultant, is preferred
• Experienced working in centralized and federated corporate structures
• Experienced working with multiple levels of client personnel to gather information, validate analysis, and make recommendations
• Experience developing business case for recommendations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms and complex business concepts in technical terms
• Bachelor Degree or Equivalent
• Excellent organizational and analytic abilities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of data management industry (DW, BI, BD, Cloud, MDM, DG, DQ, Data Modeling)
• Knowledge of SQL or similar query language. Ability to develop reasonably complex queries
• Leverage general business experience with knowledge to convert high level business objectives into functional and technical requirements and specifications
• Ability to consult with functional leaders to understand business objectives in order to design optimized data solutions
• Must be able to facilitate and guide discovery and design sessions with business SME’s and technical leads
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet aggressive deadlines
• Ability to organize, prioritize and manage dependencies
• Ability to lead group facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively in a team environment
• Strong internal communication skills including ability to work with all levels of the organization
