Job description

A rapidly growing national insurance carrier group, seeks a Data/BI Engineer to support Program Management, Finance, Actuarial, Claims and Underwriting to meet the Data needs of the organization. This person will manage himself/herself as a leader in data engineering and business intelligence, setting examples for productivity, progressive thinking, efficiency, and professionalism.

The ideal candidate is a sharp, creative, detail-oriented, analytical, and highly quantitative individual with passion for data integrity, data analysis, data availability and working with cross-functional teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, expand, and evolve Data Lake and Data Warehouse instances and ELT pipelines in MS Fabric and SQL Server
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation suite for data engineering implementations and provide training where necessary to support Team members and Stakeholders to self-serve their own usage of the data and BI reporting.
  • Support data requests from Stakeholders and coordinate and/or complete validation of reports using SQL and/or visualization tools such as PowerBI
  • Create and maintain Dashboards and Reports in PowerBI and SQL
  • Work with Stakeholders, Data Analysts and 3rd party Data Engineers to identify and implement business rules/processes to maintain data integrity and governance
  • Participate in program implementation meetings to support the program management life cycle
  • Assist with regulatory and bureau reporting, including NISS and other vendors as needed quarterly
ESSENTIAL EDUCATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or similar discipline
  • 8+years working in Data Engineering and Business Intelligence
  • 8+years working in Insurance and familiar with a wide variety of the Insurance industry’s concepts, practices and procedures
  • 3+ years working in Microsoft Fabric
  • 3+ years working in Microsoft PowerBI
  • 3+ years working in Microsoft Azure
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python and R
  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills; ability to present concise reports to all levels of management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to perform tasks within a fast-paced environment and limited supervision
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, business communication and time management skills
  • Analytical approach to work; able to ask the right questions to ensure requirements, rationale and acceptance criteria are well understood
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking, and driven individual with a focus on providing the best possible service
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload to meet tight deadlines, using analysis and data to support decision-making
  • Experience of writing business requirements or acceptance criteria that can be picked up by developers, tested and implemented
