Job summary

City of Iowa Colony seeks a Building Official to lead inspection operations, enforcement of codes, and permitting processes within a municipal framework. The role provides guidance to contractors, developers, and the public to ensure safety and compliance across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and regulations.
• Extensive knowledge of building inspection frameworks and best practices.
• Experience in developing and implementing building inspection policies and procedures.
• Ability to manage building inspection information systems and technologies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage code enforcement and dispute resolution processes.
• Experience with plan review and permitting administration.
• Skilled in designing and delivering training and development programs.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team delivering customer service.
• Skilled in managing building inspection projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage building inspection operations and systems.
• Oversee and manage the permit department and personnel.
• Oversee enforcement of building codes, zoning regulations, and ordinances.
• Develop and implement building inspection policies and procedures.
• Administer plan review and permitting process.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Manage inspection records and documentation.
• Provide guidance to contractors, developers, and the public.
• Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial properties for code compliance.
• Issue building permits and certificates of occupancy.
• Resolve code violations and disputes.
• Research new building practices and develop business cases for safety initiatives.
• Manage vendor relationships for value.
• Participate with end users and management on systems requirements.
• Develop plans for major building applications.
• Coordinate acquisition of software/tools and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
