Job summary

University of Portland is seeking a Building Mechanic III to perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on campus facilities and building systems. The role requires extensive knowledge across plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and related systems.

The position works independently, mentors other staff, and participates in on-call rotations to support a safe, reliable campus environment. Oregon BME license and experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires 5 years of progressively responsible commercial mechanic experience with extensive troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Experience using heavy equipment such as high lifts, forklifts, hand and power tools.
• Associates degree and/or trade certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install building systems (plumbing, mechanical, electrical).
• Perform advanced diagnostic work to identify root causes of failures.
• Coordinate and monitor repairs ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and on-call requests.
