Qualifications

• Five years’ experience in building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical inspection, including two years in lead or direct supervision.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• California Driver’s License at appointment; supervisory skills training during probation; two ICC certifications in building/electrical/plumbing/mechanical or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the Building Division’s inspection section.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to staff.
• Establish work priorities and assist with complex field issues.
• Ensure consistent application of codes and regulations.
• Develop staff through training and performance management.
• Act as City Building Official in the absence of the incumbent.
• Engage with contractors, property owners, design professionals and the public.
