Job summary

AXIS Capital, a global specialty lines insurer, seeks a Senior Underwriter for Builders Risk in the United States. You will focus on Project and Master Builders Risk, building broker/client relationships and growing a quality book of business.

The role demands strong underwriting judgment, portfolio management, and disciplined growth. Expect hybrid work with approximately 25% travel to meet brokers and clients.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of builder’s risk underwriting experience focused on large accounts.
• In-depth knowledge of builder’s risk including coverage, pricing, and marketplace dynamics.
• Able to analyze risks and communicate underwriting concepts to varied audiences.
• Able to work autonomously as well as in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Establish themselves as a go-to builder’s risk expert with brokers and customers.
• Analyze and qualify opportunities based on appetite and communicate it effectively.
• Underwrite within the underwriting governance framework.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and participation on risks that meet appetite and sound underwriting judgement.
• Develop relationships with broker partners to support retention and identify client needs.
• Proactively seek out new business opportunities.
• Manage portfolio of new and renewal business.
• Attend industry events and collaborate across the organization.
• May train or support lower-level underwriters or underwriting assistants.
