Job summary

Zoox is seeking a senior build engineer to own and evolve the Bazel-based build ecosystem used by hundreds of engineers. You will configure compilers, optimize pipelines, and partner with Engflow to improve the remote build farm and cache.

You will write Python tools, create Starlark rules, and integrate code quality tooling. The role requires 8+ years in engineering, 4+ years with Bazel, Linux proficiency, and the ability to maintain large polyglot codebases in a fast-paced autonomous-vehicle

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in a related role.
• Minimum 4 years of Bazel experience (or Buck/Pants).
• Linux experience.
• Familiarity with maintaining large polyglot code bases.
• Comfortable writing Python to automate and integrate tools.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the core Bazel build ecosystem used by Zoox engineers.
• Accelerate engineering velocity by reducing Bazel overhead and optimizing incremental builds.
• Develop custom Bazel rules and tooling (via Starlark) to abstract complexity.
• Integrate software quality tools into the build system and workflow.
• Build tools and dashboards to empower developers to ship better software faster.
