Job summary

General Motors seeks a software engineering leader to modernize and scale the build systems supporting software-defined vehicles. The role focuses on migrating from legacy Make-based workflows to Bazel, improving speed, reliability, and reproducibility across engineering teams.

You will shape strategy, build reusable Bazel components, and integrate with enterprise CI/CD and testing processes. A 15+ year background in software development and real-time automotive software is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of software development experience.
• Deep understanding of real-time software architecture.
• Experience shipping high quality safety-critical automotive software.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one other engineering-tooling language.
• Experience with AI-assisted developer productivity is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of embedded software build/test systems, migrating from Make/shell workflows to Bazel.
• Design reusable Bazel rules, toolchains, and platform patterns across repositories.
• Integrate Bazel with enterprise CI/CD, testing, release, and deployment workflows.
• Improve build parity, reproducibility, and developer productivity through optimized caching and parallelism.
• Provide coaching and mentorship while driving change across teams.
