Job summary

Mediacom Communications is seeking a Broadband Specialist IV, Maintenance to perform field technical work, maintain the HFC plant from node to tap, and troubleshoot the trunk system. The role includes on-call duties, heavy lifting, and climbing poles in various conditions, with ongoing training and generous benefits.

You will ensure quality service by conducting regular RF tests, adjusting trunk levels, and coordinating with teams to repair and upgrade distribution lines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 6 months as Broadband Specialist III or 5+ years’ equivalent cable technician experience.
• 18 months tenure as a Mediacom BBS III or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of Broadband Specialist I-III responsibilities, basic commercial installs, business phone and service calls, Digital Home.
• Knowledge of HFC plant, installs and service calls.
• Knowledge of Commercial Fiber PRI and Managed Voice installation and trouble shooting.
• Advanced mechanical splice skills.
• Ability to interact and communicate with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to work in high or tight spaces and in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Conduct system tests such as signal/noise and return loss; RF troubleshooting and HFC plant balance.
• Set trunk levels and replace trunk amplifiers; calculate signal losses.
• Install electronics and power connections; maintain power supplies.
• Use and maintain all test equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair coaxial and fiber distribution systems.
• Prepare project estimates and bill of materials.
• Splice coax and fiber; work with connectors, fasteners and wire.
• May perform duties of Broadband Specialist I–V.
• Climb poles and work at various heights; lift up to 100 lbs.
• On-call duties and other assigned tasks.
• Perform service installations and changes following codes and safety practices.
