Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Bridge Inspector for District 61 in Baton Rouge. You will perform inspections of on-system and off-system bridges, document conditions, and support repairs and maintenance with strong attention to safety and accuracy.

This hands-on field role requires travel to bridge locations, adherence to DOTD procedures, and participation in ongoing training.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus six years of bridge inspection experience.
Additional paths include engineering sub-professional experience with bridge inspection, or degrees with required inspection years.
FHWA-completed bridge inspection training is required.

Responsibilities

Inspect bridge components (superstructures, substructures, approaches, waterways, safety features).
Take measurements and perform field tests as needed.
Document conditions with notes, sketches, photos, and narratives.
Complete inspection reports and maintain bridge files in required systems.
Coordinate with local agencies and bridge owners for off-system inspections.
Assist with special access equipment inspections and accident documentation.
Participate in structured training and continuing education.
Support emergency/disaster response activities when needed.
