Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Bridge Engineer to support bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support for transportation infrastructure projects. This position is located in Bossier Parish and reports to the Engineer 6.

Training is provided, with opportunities for career progression through the Engineering job series. A temporary appointment may apply while pursuing licensure.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Temporary position while pursuing Engineer Intern certificate.
• Permanent status denied to incumbents.

Responsibilities

• Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
• Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
• Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
• Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other partners.
• Reviews bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
• Supports development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
• Assists with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
