Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) seeks an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer – Bridge to provide technical leadership for our Bridge Department at our Wall Township, NJ headquarters. The role offers the opportunity to shape complex bridge projects, mentor engineers, and advance technical excellence in a growing firm.

The successful candidate will lead design, rehabilitation, and inspection efforts across New Jersey, collaborate with project teams and agencies, and help drive strategic growth

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer license required; New Jersey, New York and/or Pennsylvania PE preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and NJDOT procedures.
• Experience with bridge analysis, rehabilitation, replacement, and structural evaluation.
• Proficiency with bridge design/analysis software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSI Bridge, STAAD, or equivalent.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and elevate team performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Serve as a senior technical resource for bridge engineering teams, providing guidance on design approaches and project delivery strategies.
• Lead QA/QC reviews of bridge plans, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
• Oversee structural analysis and design activities in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and NJDOT standards.
• Provide technical direction for bridge modeling, load rating analyses, and rehabilitation design efforts.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support complex project pursuits through technical strategy and client engagement.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with NJDOT and other agencies.
• Mentor, coach, and develop engineers within the Bridge Department.
• Assist with development of department standards and best practices.
• Participate in strategic planning to grow FPA’s bridge practice.
• Conduct site visits, bridge inspections, and field assessments.
