Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation seeks a Senior Structural Engineer within the Bridge Program to provide engineering oversight for a team’s portfolio of bridge projects. You will supervise licensed professional engineers and technical staff, ensuring quality and compliance across design stages and milestones.

Responsibilities include leading design efforts, preparing cost estimates, and certifying work with the Maine PE seal.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer required with two years of additional experience in complex engineering for public works structures.
• Experience supervising licensed engineers and staff in engineering tasks.
• Ability to oversee design, development, and checks for bridge projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary and final design for bridge projects across scope and complexity.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and budgets for bridge construction and rehabilitation.
• Apply Maine PE seal/stamp to certify drawings, reports, and other work.
• Oversee and coordinate team members and consultants to meet milestones.
• Audit design scope for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with standards.
• Serve as primary quality control manager for engineering and detailing work.
• Review development plans for impacts to abutters and municipalities; mitigate where needed.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and staff in alignment, hydraulic, and structural bridge design.
