Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Richmond, VA seeks an experienced Bridge Engineer to join a multi‑disciplinary team delivering bridge and structural plans and NBIS inspections for transportation projects in Virginia.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering (ABET‑accredited), 5–10 years of relevant experience, a Virginia PE or eligibility via comity within 6 months, and strong knowledge of AASHTO specs; proficiency with MicroStation/GEOPAK/OpenBridge is expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from ABET‑accredited program (MS a plus).
• 5–10 years of relevant experience.
• Virginia P.E. license or eligible via comity within 6 months preferred.
• Experience designing bridge projects and complete contract documents with VDOT policies.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO bridge specifications.
• Experience with bridge design software.
• Hands‑on with MicroStation/GEOPAK/OpenBridge.
• NBIS-certified team leader with NHI-130055 a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and contract documents for repair or replacement of bridge structures.
• Review shop drawings and support during construction.
• Perform in‑service condition inspections of highway bridges and document defects.
• Prepare reports and compute load ratings for various bridge types.
