Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. in Irvine, CA is seeking a Senior Boss Designer II to craft unforgettable boss encounters for STARCRAFT. You will design, implement, and polish combat moments that challenge players and support a narrative-driven open-world shooter vision for STARCRAFT.

You will mentor other designers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help balance encounters through playtests and analytics while navigating a hybrid work week at our Irvine studio.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional game design experience with AAA titles and boss encounters.
• Experience designing and implementing complex combat systems and encounters.
• Proven ability to own combat content and work independently toward a vision.
• Strong collaboration with engineering, art, animation, audio, and production.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor teammates and drive improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and iterate on boss encounters from concept through polish.
• Create compelling gameplay mechanics, combat scenarios, and encounter scripts.
• Collaborate with design, engineering, art, and audio to deliver high-quality experiences.
• Develop boss behaviors, attack patterns, and pacing for challenging gameplay.
• Balance encounters using playtest feedback and analytics.
• Document designs and requirements; prototype new mechanics.
• Mentor designers through feedback and knowledge sharing.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and improve quality.
