Job summary
The Department of Business and Industry, Safety Specialist, Boiler in the Mechanical Compliance Section, performs boiler and pressure vessel inspections under general supervision. Positions may be filled in Reno or Las Vegas.
Duties include inspections, issuing permits, investigating incidents, and providing code interpretation guidance to engineers and contractors. Incumbents may train staff, serve in a lead capacity, and contribute to special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 2 years boiler/pressure vessel experience
- Associate's degree with 3 years boiler/pressure vessel experience
- High school diploma with 4 years boiler/pressure vessel experience
- Commission as National Board boiler inspector required at appointment
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, and related equipment
- Provide technical assistance to engineers, contractors, architects, owners and operators
- Perform shutdown and operating inspections for compliance
- Investigate accidents and complaints and prepare reports
- Provide technical guidance on code requirements and maintenance issues
- Orient/train new Safety Specialists; may serve as lead on projects
