American Battery Solutions Inc. in Lake Orion, MI seeks a Senior BMS Hardware Design Engineer to lead the architecture and validation of battery management system hardware for advanced storage and electrification projects.

You will own schematic design, PCB layout reviews, and hardware bring-up, coordinating with embedded software and systems teams. The role requires hands-on debugging, DFMEA, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a bachelor’s with 2 years of equivalent experience in BMS, battery systems, embedded hardware or power electronics.
• Minimum of five years in BMS, battery systems, embedded hardware, or power electronics, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience leading schematic design, hardware bring-up, and electrical debugging.
• Experience designing high- and low-voltage battery systems and their communication interfaces.
• Experience taking BMS hardware from concept through production release.
• Experience leading BMS validation testing and safety mechanism verification.
• Proficiency with PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, or equivalent.
• Experience in automotive, energy storage, or industrial electrification domains.
• Familiarity with SOC estimation methods and battery safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and architecture of BMS hardware, including cell sensing, protection, control, and interfaces.
• Lead PCB layout reviews and board-level bring-up, including initial power-on, measurements, debugging, and rework.
• Define and document BMS hardware requirements and interface control documents with Systems Engineering.
• Conduct DFMEA, tolerance stack-up, and worst-case circuit analysis.
• Lead hardware validation strategy with functional verification and fault-injection testing.
• Diagnose and resolve interface issues between embedded software and BMS hardware (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, ADC).
• Mentor engineers and establish BMS design standards and best practices.
• Partner with embedded software to lead hardware bring-up and system-level debug activities.
• Support SOC/SOH/SOP algorithm validation with MATLAB/Simulink data correlation.
• Maintain technical records for production release and future development.
