Job summary

Ladders is seeking a Senior Biology Specialist to evaluate complex biological information with emphasis on biosecurity, dual-use research, and high-consequence pathogens. You will apply advanced scientific judgment to review sensitive cases, support consistent decision-making, and help strengthen safety controls across the organization.

Remote work is supported. In this role you will collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate technical findings into clear risk assessments and mentoring

Qualifications

• Advanced degree required in a biological field.
• 5+ years in biodefense or biosecurity roles.
• Deep knowledge of high-consequence pathogens and toxin production.
• Strong ability to discern benign research from potential threats.
• Experience mentoring others and maintaining quality standards.
• Excellent technical writing to summarize complex information.
• US work authorization; Texas-based candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and adjudicate complex, high-severity biological cases.
• Apply scientific reasoning to evaluate dual-use research.
• Perform quality assurance on junior specialists' casework and provide feedback.
• Evaluate customer appeals and document enforcement actions.
• Generate precise case annotations for internal safety filters.
• Synthesize technical findings into risk assessments for stakeholders.
